OVERVIEW

Situation

In Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Norcross, Doraville, Chamblee, and the surrounding communities, more than 200,000 Hispanics live in apartment complexes, and according to the North American Mission Board, over 97% of those residents are unchurched. They arrive in this country unable to speak English or care for their families. The children have an extremely difficult time in school since their parents cannot help them with their homework. The men find themselves taken advantage of by unscrupulous business men who prey on their fear of immigration issues. Multiple families often live together in a single apartment to share cost of the rent. They have a very difficult time paying for their rent and utilities. These living conditions place an enormous emotional burden on them which often results in drug and alcohol abuse. Their spiritual needs are so great, and yet they find little comfort in the cultural traditions.

Objectives

The major purpose of Spring of Peace Ministry is to "Take the Church, to the People".  We establish programs within the communities with the objective of bringing the good news of the Gospel right into their homes, and developing a close relationship with the residents by helping their children with a tutoring program after school. When there is a "Mission" or a missionary family in the apartment complex, we have seen a drop in the crime rate and a higher percentage of children staying in school. Planting Missionaries to interact with the residents increment the level of trust and increase the knowledge of Christ as well as the standard of education.
